As a unique “Boutique DJ”, each and every one of my events is ultra-personalized. I don’t believe in offering a multitude of “packages” like most (which is generally different levels of service. The cheaper the package, the more lacking the service is). I offer only one type of “package”: A high-quality, ultra-personalized service for each and every event.
I do not offer a “one-size-fits-all” pricing, nor do I price “per hour.” As a sole proprietor professional DJ & MC, I’m essentially theirs “for the day”, not by the hour (as I only book one event per day). I also do not believe in “nickel-and-diming.” Obtaining all of the event info at the get-go gets you an honest estimate and no “surprise” extra charges down-the-road.
I do require a signed agreement and an initial payment towards DJ services for all events.

SOME HONEST THOUGHTS
WHY PRICING VARIES FOR SERVICES
As you plan your wedding or event, you've probably already decided what's important to you. Maybe it's the DJ. Or the pictures. Or the food. Maybe it's all three. Whatever you're considering important, you're most likely budgeting for that accordingly (or should!).
You've also probably discovered that pricing for services vary greatly. And, pricing for a DJ is no different. But, there are reasons for that (which I'll get to).
If you consider the DJ entertainment an important part of your wedding, then you realize that how important the right DJ is. You've probably been to weddings or events that made you realize this. Perhaps you heard horror stories. Or both.
After all, no one is to going to say that chair covers or the guest favors rocked (or ruined) that wedding or event. The blame (generally) goes to the DJ (at least when music is a key element to the event) .
Pricing for DJ services -- along with any other type of service -- varies greatly. A DJ is a service-based business. So, it's unlike pricing a product that you can try out, feel or drive around. Granted, there is some equipment involved, but -- in reality -- it is a small part of the overall service (despite too many DJs ignorantly focusing on gear).
I can tell you that if you're looking for a "cheap" or "budget" DJ, then we wouldn't be a good fit. On the flip side, I'm not the most expensive.
What I am is a well-experienced DJ & MC -- whose career IS this actual industry -- whose pricing is reflective of my experience, along with the amount of time I devote to each wedding, for starters. I also run an actual business -- not a hobby. So, with that comes taxes and other expenses with running a legit business.
The industry is also inundated with those who simply do this as side hobby for "a few extra bucks." So, you have to decide if you want an experienced professional or someone who essentially does it for a few extra bucks and/or is relatively new to the business.
Hiring a DJ (or photographer or videographer, for example) is no different. Professional and experienced DJ's (like myself) -- or any service provider -- are priced accordingly. As are those who are only doing it as a side gig, along with those new to the industry. Comparing a rather new DJ to an experienced professional is an apples to oranges comparison, for example.
The perfect analogy is your job. You expect to be compensated accordingly based on your experience, education level, success, etc., along with with whether they do this part-time or this is their actual career. You'd be offended if your boss came to you and asked you to take a significant pay cut because they're hiring someone fresh out of college, or compared your salary to someone with significantly less experience than you.
Plus, those of us who are operating an actual business have expenses of running a legitimate business -- like taxes, insurance & other expenses associated with it. Plus, we're actually attending conferences, seminars et al to ensure we're on top of what we do. We are actually invested into what we do.
Those who do it on the side do not. They don't have insurance or pay taxes and they're generally not attending workshops, etc. as they have a "real job" during the week. There are significant difference between the experienced professionals like myself and the "doing it for spending money" vendors.
So, comparing me (or any experienced and professional DJ/service) to someone who does it on the side and charges half of what I do is not a similar comparison. They're cheap for reasons (and not all that positive). Plus -- truth be told -- it's these types of DJs who are the most unreliable as their "real job" could interfere. Especially in this economy. It's easy for these "side gig" vendors to just not show up or vanish.
An experienced professional is not going to do that (unless they're intentionally trying to destroy the business they built up).
I would even say that comparing my service to one of the many "big" DJ companies isn't the same either because I'm personally investing all of my time into your event from planning to execution.
Majority of the "big" DJ companies do not as they simply collect some information and pass it along to whatever DJ gets assigned/picked for your event (and gets paid a fraction of what you paid the company). They're generally not making the kind of overall personal investment that I am.
Also, each and every event is different. No two weddings (or events) are ever the same. Therefore, each event has its' own needs, or might have unique needs. To me, there is no "standard". There is no "typical". I do not offer a "cookie-cutter" service with a "one-price-fits-all' approach like many DJ's do. Your wedding or event is not a "one-size-fits-all'.
